Nestling against the 9,000ft high San Jacinto Mountains, Palm Desert lies in the Coachella Valley, which boasts over 100 beautifully landscaped golf courses and country clubs. San Diego, Laguna Beach, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Hollywood, Universal Studios and Disneyland are some of the nearby attractions.

Palm Desert is an ideal base from which to visit Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Indian Wells, home to many International Tennis Grand Slams, is only minutes from Palm Desert. Palm Desert is a unique holiday resort, with virtually 365 sunny days each year.

Temperatures between December and April average 70-degrees F and between May to September temperatures reach 100+ degrees F. This is a dry heat with little or no humidity and is therefore much more pleasurable than on, say, the Spanish Costas.

Some of the local attractions include the 1,200 acre Living Desert Zoo & Museum, the Palm Springs aerial tramway (a cable car to the top of the mountains), multi-screen cinemas with an IMAX theatre. There is a delightful night-time street market in Palm Springs every Thursday with stalls selling a range of craftwork and artwork as well as books, paintings and clothes.

There are approximately 6 casinos in the valley with a new casino just off the main Palm Springs high street. There is a vast outlet mall in nearby Cabazon which is worth a visit. A guide to eating out would fill a book - there is just about every restaurant you can imagine.
