From the harbour you can take a taxi boat or bus to one of the many beaches on the island or simply relax at one of the waterside cafes and watch the world go by. Of particular interest are the super yachts which line up in the harbour and it is a great passtime to wander along the harbour and observe the wealthy Greeks on holiday! The mainland is across the water, less than 2 minutes by taxi boat, or if you have a car you can take the car ferry and explore the mainland. Island hopping is easy from Poros, one of the Saronic group of islands and you can visit Hydra, Spetses and Aegina. Alternatively, nip back to Athens where there are inumerable ferries to many other other islands.
Staying in Lemon Tree House is a real pleasure. The decor is in Poros style; pastel shades, with comfort in mind. From the moment you walk onto the terrace you will be arrested by the mesmerizing views and it is tempting not to move away! The top floor has a double bedroom with doors to the terrace and from the large living area there are more glass doors to the terrace. The open kitchen is well equipped with hob, oven, fridge/freezer and washing machine, as well as the other every day items you would expect. The bathroom has bath, bidet, basin and shower. There is a sofabed and additional campbed if required. All new in 2007. On the ground floor you walk in to a living room which has two sofabeds and there are two further twin bedrooms, one leading to a large terrace with panoramic views. Pretty gardens surround the house. There is a secondary kitchen with hob, fridge, toaster, etc and a large bathroom with 2 basins, bath and shower. All new in 2007.
Poros is an absolute delight. You can spend time discovering tavernas and places of interest whilst roaming the white painted narrow streets off the harbour. The coastal path offers fantastic views and historic places of interest enroute. The beaches are not crowded and there are two buses touring the island which stop at all the beaches so that a car is really not necessary. Down to the harbour takes a minute, but a little longer coming back due to the uphill nature of the land! If you like swimming pools there are several on Poros, all open to visitors with no charge including sunbeds. Each pool has its own taverna. SHOPPING There is a fish and meat market every morning in Poros and also many shops selling fresh fruit and vegetables. Internet cafes are numerous and the local inhabitants extremely friendly in true island style. All the restaurants are family owned and the service is excellent. The local wine is very good and extremely cheap! There are many shops selling clothes, beachwear and jewellery as well as local crafts and it is always interesting to spend time browsing the shops in Poros. Getting there: Fly to Athens and take the shuttle bus from the airport to Pireaus, the port of Athens and there you will find your fast ferry to Poros. These travel regularly and we can give you a link to the timetables so that you can book your tickets in advance or we can do this for you. Another option is to hire a car at Athens airport and drive to Galatas on the mainland opposite Poros. This will take approximately 2.5hours. From Galatas you can take the small car ferry across to Poros (5mins).
We have a local English person who manages our house and she will meet you and take you to Lemon Tree House. She is also available to deal with any queries you may have during your stay.
