The Aegean Region of Turkey is found in the western part of the country, and it took the name of the sea that crests from the Mediterranean and on to the north, to Turkey and Greece. You will find many ancient cities here, left behind from the cultures that once called this area home.

Akhisar was once a military fortification for Seleucus Nicator, after he re-founded the city. The city included many trades, and you can still see signs of them today. Their workers were bakers, potters and tailors.
Bergama is located near the river Caicus, and the city was once chosen by a general of Alexander the Great, and he deposited his gold there. The city would become one of the richest areas of architectural and cultural ways, and it went through the hands of the Romans, Arabs and Turks. Bergama is a city you won't want to miss, since it is full of items and buildings of historical beauty.
Bodrum is not just a popular vacation destination, but it was once the home of the historian Herodotus. Marmaris is also known as a vacation village on the Aagean Sea, and it is a peaceful town in the wintertime. In the summer, though, it's a busy resort with a fabulous harbor.
You will also want to visit the ruins of Cannus, including the Terrace Temple, Byzantine Church and the Fountain House. These are truly historic landmarks and tell their own stories of the past.
