Though we may all not know of its existence, the magical
land of Turkey presents to the world brilliantly exotic
travel destinations. Such charm and beauty are hard to
come by, but in this little resort town, it rains magic.
This Turkish port in the Mugla Province is soon gaining
popularity. It is situated on the Bodrum Peninsula, in
close proximity to the northwest entry to the Gulf of
Gökova. Bodrum also faces Kos, a popular Greek island.
At present Bodrum is recognized as a hub for tourists
and is famous for its yachting activities. If you are
looking for an ancient reference, we are discussing the
early Halicarnassus of Caria, well-known for the burial
chamber of Maussollos. Bodrum is a rather popular tourist
resort town, especially so for northern Europeans. This
is credited to its gorgeous coastline and dynamic night-life.
In fact many have nicknamed Bodrum as the Bedroom of
Europe, of course with a generous dollop of humour. Though
this resort town is rather small and is home to about
40,000 people, tourists that visit are uncountable. There
numbers are estimated at a few hundreds of thousands each
year. At present, Bodrum is reputed to be Turkey’s
most vivacious resort. This magical destination attracts
a large number of poets, singers and artists. Of course
this is apart from the scores of package tourists that
flow in incessantly.
It is believed that in gone eras, its wonderful harbour
was occupied by early Greeks in the 11th century BC. Later
on the city did well and developed under Persian rule.
Bodrum has also served as the capital city of the satrapy
of Caria. With its great history and modern day charm,
this resort town continues to attract newer vacationers
every year.
