This city has the faro international airport and is also home to the University of Algarve. The region is mountainous and has numerous valleys. The highest elevation at Algarve is the Mountain range of Monchique. Algarve is spread over 5,412 square kilometers and is reputed to house more than a million people at the peak of summer because of an increased vacationer influx.

At Algarve you could visit the Ria Formosa lagoon. This is a nature reserve that is spread over 170 square kilometers and houses many species of birds. This famous beach destination boasts of a Mediterranean climate. It is also reputed to be a safe holiday getaway apart from being a fair priced destination. Its coastline is distinguished for its pictorial limestone caves. You could get to Lagos via a powerboat. Praia da Marinha is listed amongst the 100 most attractive and conserved beaches of the world.
