Reputed as one of Portugal’s best holiday destinations,
Algarve is many a golfers’ paradise. Henry Cotton
put Algarve on the global golf front in the mid-sixties.
It was then that he designed the foremost proper grass
course at Penina. He went on to design 2 more courses
in this beautiful haven. Through the 1970’s, 80’s
and 90’s, it literally rained golf courses. Despite
the fact that of the prevailing courses, none are in excess
of 15km from the coast, their landscape ranges. This is
very apparent if you visited the different styled courses
at the Parque da Floresta, Vilamoura III, Salgados, and
Palmares, to name a few. At the Victoria Clube de Golfe
Course, you would be viewing 90 hectares of spectacular
landscaping, with beautiful lakes and waterfalls within
it. This extensive 18 holes golf course was founded in
2004 by architect Arnold Palmer. The Laguna Course came
into operation in 1990. Designed by Joseph Lee, this Algarve
golf course makes good use of the wet, marshy ground within
its boundaries. It is also the latest of the Vilamoura
courses and has broader fairways.
The Pinhal course has bunkers, whereas
the Marina and Lago courses have made good use of water
bodies. There are numerous notable Algarve golf courses.
The Vilamoura has five courses and the Old Course is alleged
to be the most impressive. The Arnold Palmer has been
the brainchild behind Vilamoura Victoria. The Vilamoura
Millennium, Vilamoura Pinhal and Vilamoura Laguna are
popular as well. Vila Sol is world famous and even houses
world level competitive golf. At the Quinta do Lago estate,
there are 4 courses. This includes the Quinta do Lago
North and Quinta do Lago South. San Lorenzo is argued
to be amongst the best European courses. You could also
visit the Pinheiros Altos, the Royal Course designed by
Henry Cotton or the Ocean Course, which is designed by
Robert Trent Jones in some part. Find
